INCLUSION - CLIL SHOW ME THE WAY, GENTLY - COURSE DESCRIPTION

Introduction

This course is aimed at teachers and school staff from primary to lower secondary education, company staff as well as students and all those who want to improve their fluency in English as well as refresh their methodology. The program aims to use CLIL as a tool of limited use, (soft CLIL) but very important in the effort for inclusion. Participants are expected to have at least B1 level of English proficiency.

Methodology

Methodology is based on theoretical lessons and presentations of examples of good practice as well as discussions and experience comparisons. Participants will have the opportunity to develop oral and written skills in English as well as broaden their horizons regarding CLIL methodology through lectures, workshops, simulations and case studies.

Objectives

  • Familiarizing with key concepts and issues in CLIL methodology and inclusion.

  • Improving the participants’ oral and written skills in English.

  • Developing and/or improving skills in teaching target school subjects (hard CLIL) or parts of them (Soft CLIL) through English.

  • Understanding the theoretical principles of CLIL, De Bono method (The six thinking hats), the flipped classroom and inclusion.

  • Developing communication, collaboration, presentation, problem solving, negotiation, critical and creative thinking skills.

  • Boosting participants’ confidence in communication in English even their level is not very high.

  • Highlighting the completely different inclusive environment that can create when we use CLIL, De Bono method   and the flipped classroom.

  • Enhancing understanding of the potential CLIL methodology has in education and how it can be used to enhance acquisition of a foreign language. Also giving to the excluded students (because they are foreign, because they are weak in the subject etc.) the opportunity of equal participation and empowerment.

  • Enhancing professional skills through mastering tools for virtual communication and collaboration.

  • Providing and exercising creative ideas and practical resources for successful implementation of CLIL in teaching several school subjects with English as a target language.

  • The use of the De Bono method in order, for the students, to focus on specific points each time, through different filters, to use words first and then move on the phrases.

  • Improving English fluency (official language of the course).

  • Promoting intercultural awareness.

  • Sharing experiences of interactive methodologies for learning English from different organizations in order to help each of us to be more effective in our work.

  • Strengthening the European collaboration among people teaching English or in English in different contexts.

  • Providing insights into different education systems.

Preparation

After registration participants will receive pre-course questionnaire which will be used by the trainer to learn about participants’ teaching backgrounds and to assess their exact needs. Participants will be asked to submit apart from a favorite teaching topic so that we can all see what changes are observed when these subjects are transferred to English. Before the beginning of the course a basic reading list will be suggested to participants to prepare for the training. Participants will also be asked to prepare a presentation about themselves, their professional context and their culture. The presentation will be presented on the first day of the course to facilitate networking opportunities. Participants will receive information about the country they are going to visit in order to prepare them for their cultural experience.

Follow up

After the course each participant will create materials and lesson plans to share them with the other participants. All together they will create a common base of recommended materials, lesson plans and techniques. They will be asked to share what they have learned with the rest of the staff in their schools. Further books and articles to deepen the topic and contacts with some other practitioners all over Europe and in the world will be suggested by the trainer. The methods shared and explored and the bibliography given will allow the participants to complete and improve their educational path.

Certificate

Each participant will get a course attendance certificate and the Europass Mobility Document.
