INTRODUCTION TO ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN EDUCATION - COURSE DESCRIPTION

Introduction

The course is intended for educators from various disciplines who are interested in understanding the potential of AI in education. No prior knowledge of AI is required. It is especially beneficial for those who are keen on incorporating innovative technologies into their teaching practices to enhance learning outcomes and prepare their students for a rapidly evolving, tech-centric future. This course aims to provide educators across disciplines with an understanding of the fundamental concepts of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its potential applications in an educational setting. Participants will explore a range of AI technologies including Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, and robotics, and learn how these can facilitate personalized learning, automate assessments, and provide immediate feedback. The course will also delve into the ethical considerations surrounding AI in education and the future trends in the field. Participants are expected to have at least B1 level of English proficiency.

Methodology

The "Introduction to AI in Education" course uses a blend of instructional methods to facilitate comprehensive understanding and active learning. We begin with engaging lectures that introduce the foundational concepts of AI and its role in education. To ensure these concepts are contextualized, real-world examples and case studies will be extensively used. Hands-on activities are incorporated to offer practical exposure to various AI tools. This experiential learning helps participants understand how AI can be implemented in actual classroom settings. Group discussions and Q&A sessions will foster collaborative learning, enabling participants to share their perspectives and learn from each other's insights. We will also host demonstration sessions to present the functioning of AI in technologies like Natural Language Processing and robotics. Finally, the course will focus on self-directed learning, encouraging participants to explore and learn about AI in education beyond the course, preparing them for an AI-integrated classroom. This multi-modal instructional approach ensures an engaging, effective, and practical learning experience.

  • Strengthening the European collaboration among people using ICT in education in different contexts.

  • Providing insights into different education systems.

Preparation

After registration participants will receive pre-course questionnaire which will be used by the trainer to learn about participants’ teaching backgrounds and to assess their exact needs. Before the beginning of the course a basic reading list will be suggested to participants to prepare for the training. Participants will also be asked to prepare a presentation about themselves, their professional context and their culture which will be presented during the course. Participants will receive information about the country they are going to visit in order to prepare them for their cultural experience.

Follow up

After the course participants will be asked to share what they have learned with the rest of the staff in their schools. Further books and articles to deepen the topic and contacts with some other practitioners all over Europe and in the world will be suggested by the trainer. The methods shared and explored and the bibliography given will allow the participants to complete and improve their educational path.

Certificate

Each participant will get a course attendance certificate and the Europass Mobility Document.
